RALEIGH, N.C. — Judge William A. Webb, Senior Advisor at Shanahan Law Group, has been appointed Chair of the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission by Chief Justice Martin. Judge Webb, who has served on the Commission since his appointment in September 2014, was sworn in on November 29 by NCAOC Director Judge Marion Warren. During his two years as a member of the Commission, he has served on both the Grievance & Disciplinary Committee, as well as the Ad Hoc District Criminal Court Mediation Program Committee.
The Commission is a 16-member body charged by statute with certifying and regulating mediators who conduct mediated settlement conferences in the North Carolina courts. The Commission also recommends dispute resolution policy, rules, and revisions; provides support to court-based mediation programs; certifies mediation training programs, and assists other State agencies with providing dispute resolution services to their communities. The successful work of mediators appointed by the Commission benefits disputing parties, North Carolina courts, and taxpayers alike.
“We think the choice of Judge Webb for Chair is an excellent one, based on both his experience and commitment to alternative dispute resolution,” said Kieran Shanahan, managing partner at Shanahan Law Group.
In his role as a Senior Advisor to Shanahan Law Group, Judge Webb concentrates his work on employment issues and helps shape and review litigation strategy for the firm. Judge Webb is a certified federal mediator in all three federal districts in North Carolina and is a certified North Carolina superior court mediator. He has previously served as deputy secretary and general counsel in the N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, as first chief of the organized crime and drug enforcement task force in the U.S. Attorney’s office in Raleigh, and as Commissioner of the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission in Washington, D.C.
